Would you want to be a Clan deputy?

Book of the Month: September 2006

This month's book is the one I thought would be my absolute least favorite book this year. After reading it, I thought different. This month's winner is Reaching Dustin.

Last Saturday, I went to a conference where there were a bunch of authors and an illustrater. I got to meet Viki Grove in person and she agrees that this was the most "boyish" book she has written and that her son agrees that her books are too "girly".

Please give me your comments and book of the month.

Fire and Ice

Fire and Ice
Erin Hunter

Fireheart and Greystripe go looking for the WindClan, who were driven out of their clan by ShodowClan. While training apprentices, Greystripe is rescued by a pretty RiverClan cat. When Greystripe abanonds the warrior code to see her, Fireheart wonder where where his loyalty lies. When ShadowClan and RiverClan team up on WindClan, who calls for aid, Greystripe is tested...

Another great worriors book! I am ready to read the third.

If you might die staying with those who are weak to get them home, would you run ahead, or stay with them?

If your friend broke the worrior code, and was continuing to do so, would you stop him?

Would you kill your own son, even if he was totally evil?

Please give me your comments and answers to this post.

Into the WiId

Into the Wild
Erin Hunter

Rusty, a kittypet, wanders into the forest, wondering what he will find. When he runs into Graypaw, a ThunderClan apprentice, he is asked into the clan to become a warrior. Strange things start happening with the clans. WindClan has dissappeared, and the ShadowClan scent is in the air...

WONDERFUL!!! The warriors series is awesome! It is neat that a kittypet becomes a warrior! Especially before Sandpaw and Dustpaw. AWESOME book.

Would you aboandon a boring but hospitable life to a dangerous but exciting one? Why or why not?

If you could choose your mentor, who would it be?

Would you want to be a clan leader?

Please give me your comments and answers to this post.

Reaching Dustin

Reaching Dustin
Viki Grove

Carly wants to be the class reporter. When she finds out that the interviewing project they are about to start, she thinks it will be no problem, until she finds out she is interviewing Dustin Groat. Dustin is a loner, and always filthy. He is quiet and rude. Part of this is because the rest of the class laughing at him, and some because of his family's reputation. When Carly finds out that his family is cruel to him, and Dustin needs to be helped, Carly does everything to help.

At my school, every spring, we have a litturature conferance where eight authors from Missouri come to our school. To be able to go to the conference, each kid has to read one of the author's books. When I got to Viki Grove, all of the books were about girls. All but one. Reaching Dustin was the only book not about all girls. Even though it looked boring and stupid, this book was by far the best book out of the eight authors. It covered some interesting issues, and was very well written. I would reccomend this book to anyone.

If you had to interview someone you thought was a weirdo, how would you react?

If you heard Dustin's music, would you go talk to him or just listen?

If you thought Dustin needed school, how would you go about getting him back in?

The Westing Game vs. Get a Clue

Get a Clue is a movie based on the Westing game. Although the movie itself is good, It is totally different than the book. In the book, Turtle has braids, which is a big thing in the book, but as you can see on the movie cover, she doesn't in the movie. Also, Sudelle Pulaski and Jake Wexler are a little bit crazy, which isn't true in the book. Only Chris is mentioned in the Theodorakins family, and Mrs. Baumbach isn't in it either. In the movie, Turtle totally is into the stock market. This is not mentioned in the book. Also, Turtle steals the clues from people, they don't compile them together. The movie was a dissapointment, but alone it is a great movie.

Lunch Money

Lunch Money
Andrew Clements

Mark Twain Award Nominee 2007/08

Greg loves money. Every chance he can get, he is saving it up. When he looks into his lunch room, all he sees is tons and tons of quarters. He starts to make comics, but when one day, he has a rival company, things start to get out of hand...

Lunch Money was a great book in many ways. It showed how enemies became friends and buisness partners. There was great determination and persistance. The ending was great.

If you wanted to make money, how would you do it?

Would you sell things at school?

Would you save your money or spend your money?

The Westing Game

The Westing Game
Ellen Raskin
Newberry Award Winner

Sixteen people gathered to hear the reading of Sam Westing's will, none of them thinking that they were really about to play a game, The Westing Game. They were paired up and each given ten thousend dollars and a set of clues. The will suggested that one of them was a murderer, and many of them lived in the same place. Everyone is accusing and ploting, trying to the Westing Game...

This book was clever, an awesome mystery, and I couldn't figure it out. I was surprised that Turtle could. It is a book though, anything could happen.

If you were snowbound with a murderer, thief, and a bomber, how would you react?

Do you think you could beat Mr. Westing in chess?

Did you figure it out before the end of the book?

Please give me your comments and amswers to this post.

Book of the Month: August 2006

This months winner was a Newberry winner. It was the most powerful story I have ever read. This month's winner was The Giver!

Please give me your book of the month and comments.

Lois Lowery
Companion to Neberry Award Winnig The Giver and Gathering Blue

Strange things are starting to happen in Village. at the trading market, people are trading away their inner self for other things. Mentor used to welcome new people, but now is wanting a wall around Village. Seer, Kira's father has Matt ( Now Matty) to get Kira and bring her to Village before the wall goes up...

This book was awesome but sad. Once again very powerful. I wish Mattty didn't die, even though he did so peacefully.

If you wanted someone to like you, would you trade away you inner self to get rid of your faults?

If you had a special ability that scared you, would you tell someone?

How would you have tried to get through the forest?

Please give me your comments and answers to this post.

Gathering Blue

She, a boy named Thomas, and a boy named Matt, discover and find more about a little girl locked in a room downstairs. One day Matt is missing, and is nowhere in the village...

Another powerful book by Lois Lowry. This one was very different that the Giver, but still wonderful.

If you were parentless, crippled, hated by mosst, and had no home, what would you do?

If your friend was gone for and exeptionally long time without telling you, what would you do?

If you supposedly dead father came to you from another village, and you had Kira's job, would you stay of go?

Please give me your comments and answers to this post.

This book is a very powerful book. It was confusing, but one of the best I have ever read. It deserves the award it got.

Would you like having no choices or big feelings in life?

Could you stand being the reciever?

Would you run away from the village to let the memories free and never come back?

Vampire Plagues: Mexico 1850

Vampire Plagues
Mexico 1850

They are a group against the vampires, and Jack and Ben learn how to fight with them. Emily decyphers the Mayan with one of the people there. When the members of the brotherhood are led to the wrong place by a traitor, the lady Emily works with, It is up to Edwin, Jack, Emily, Ben, and a man named Roberto to defeat Camozotz once and for all!

This book was amazing! The scariest yet! It was a great Finally to the Vampire Plagues trilligy, and just a great book.

If you had known a man to be dead, and killed by vampires, and you saw him, what would you think? Would you think that he was a vampire?

If you knew that the army had gone to the wrong place, would you have gone after them or gone to the right place?

Would you fight vampires with a bow and arrow or a spear?

Kidnapped: The Search

The Search
Gordon Korman

Meg is being taken where no one would think, so she tries to send a message to aiden, clogging toilets with toilet paper rolls. When nobody believes Aiden that the sign was from Meg, he sets out on his own.

Another great read! It is driving me nuts not being able to get the third though!

If you thought you saw a sign from your kidnapped sister, and had been right last time you thought this, would you set out on your own following the clues?

How would you act if the agent in charge of finding your sister did nothing?

If you were "Mickey" and found out that your acomplices did the crime out of hate? Wold you help her get free?

Please give mo your comments and answers to this post.

Kidnapped: The Abduction

The Abduction
Gordon Korman

While walking home from school one day, Meg is abducted right in front of Aiden! After trying to stop them, aiden is thrown on the sidewalk and the kidnappers take off. With Agent Harris, Aidenmust find Meg before it is too late...

An awesome follow-up to the On The Run series! This book was advertised in the back of Hunting the Hunter, and I got it from the library as fast as possible. Awesome book!

What is the first thing you would do if your sister was kidnapped?

If you had been kidnapped and were outside for a few seconds, how would you send a message?

Would you trust a person who was after you at one time to help find your sister?

Please give me your comments and answers to this post.

After Proffeser Andesnap gets an invitation to go to Paris to talk with a friend about the ancient Mayan culture, Jack, Emily, and Ben are to be taken too. When a farmiliar illness starts to surge through paris, the three firends know the battle against the Vampire God isn't over yet...

This book was a lot scarrier than London. It was one of my favorite recent reads. the character Dominique was a great addition the the book.

If you had fought the vampire battle with Jack, would you believe what he said happened in the "Holy Place" was true, even if you heard about the illness?

Would Dominique annoy you, or would you be good friends?

What would you do if a ton of vampires were after you?

On The Run: Hunting the Hunter

On The Run
Hunting the Hunter
Gordon Korman

When Meg and Aiden find out that Hairless Joe is Frank Lindenaur, They do everything in their power to catch him. When the first plan fails, Aiden is ready to do something Meg won't accept, and goes to the FBI for help...

This Book is definatly my favorite! I actually thought that Aiden would find another way to blame HORUS and Frank Lindenaur. It tricked me well.

How would try to capture a killer whose target is you?

If your sibling was going to commit suicide to get your family out af jail, when you had a warent for arrest, would you walk into the hands of those who want you?

What would you do when you lost all hope of rescueing your family, and were under arrest?

Please give me your comments and answers to this post.

On The Run: Public Enemies

On The Run
Public Enemies
Gordon Korman

After Aiden and Meg break out of a hospital, they rush to Denver and HORUS Global's headquarters. Instead of finding info, they find a killer! will they make it out alright?

This book was my favorite so far! This series is awesome! Good suspense.

If you wanted to show victory and the only way was your picture, and you were under arrest, would you take it?

If a person trying to kill you was about die, and you could stop it, would you?

If you had no shelter, would you sleep in a library?

Please give me yur comments and answers to ths post.

Gordon Korman

When LA gets too dangerous for Meg and Aiden Falconer, they have one chance of survival, and they have to stow away. When they are captured they go overboard in a life raft, in the middle of a huge storm. Will they survuve?

This book was great! Thank goodness Aiden read the Mac Mulvey books!

If you had to get out of LA without being noticed, with FBI, poliece and a trained killer after you, how would you do it?

How would you stowaway on a ship?

If you lost a companion from your life raft in a storm, would you give them up as dead?

On The Run: Now You See Them, Now You Don't

On The Run
Now You See Them, Now You Don't
Gordon Korman

After Meg broke out of jail with the help of Aiden, the falconer fugitives fly to LA, California. When Aiden saves a street kid's life, Aiden and Meg are taken to his place for a bed to sleep in.
When more killing goes on, a counterfitter is discovered, and FBI are close on their trail, Meg and Aiden know they need to get out of there!

This book was AWESOME! I didn't stop reading until I was done with the fourth (I had nothing better to do). Suspense and detail make these stories great!

If there were two teen agers, one with a knife and looking thretening to the other, would you try to stop him or run away?

If you knew a counterfitter, would you call the poliece even if you had a warrent for arrest?

Please give me your comments and answers to this post.

Book of the Month: June 2006

I am going to stat doing a book of the month! Even though it is the end of July, here is June's.

June's Book of the month is actually two books I did as one. These books were great and some of my favorite ever. This month's winner is Ranger's Apprentice!

Please give my your book of the month and comments to this post.

The Wee Free Men

The Wee Free Men
Terry Pratchett

When Jenny Green-Teeth, a weird fish-like creature shows up in Tiffany's river, she isn't very happy. She smacks it with a frying pan and goes home and is satisfied. A few days later she meets the Nac Mac Feegle, red haired, thieving, drinking, sword weilding, strong, tatoo covered, six inch tall blue men, also known and the Wee Free Men. When Tiffany's brother is taken to fairyland, She and the Wee Free Men must face many dangers to bring him back.

This book was AWESOME! there was tons of suspence, details, and good charactars. I want to read more of this authors books. Once again, GREAT book.

What would you do if you saw a monster in your river?

If the Nac Mac Feegle stole something of yours, what would you do?

If your sibling was stolen by the Queen of the Elves, would you go into fairyland, even if the Wee Free Men helped you?

Please give me your comments and aswers to this post.

On The Run: The Fugitive Factor

On The Run
The Fugitive Factor
Gordon Korman

Aiden and Meg find the address of "Uncle Frank's" girlfriend and rush to Massachusetts in hope of finding her. When they get there, they have to wait a few days, and they stay in a hotel and get a job. When Meg gets captured, Aiden knows he must rescue her. Will he get caught?

This book was great! The suspense and plot were both great! I couldn't put the book down. I am ready for number three.

If you could get thee best hotel in Boston for free, when you were wanted by the poliece even if you didn't have to give your name out?

If your sibling was in jail, would you break them out?

How would you break them out?

Please give me your comments and answers to this post.

On The Run: Chasing the Falconers

On The Run
Chasing the Falconers

They live their lives not being able to talk to the rest of the family, and milk cows all day. That is until a fire burns the place down, and there is chance for escape...

If your parents were in jail, how would you feel? Would you think they were guilty or innocent?

If you were being held on a juvinile detention farm, the place burned to the ground, and the authorities were not there, would you run?

If you did run, where would you go and what would you do?

By Tor Seidler
Mark Twain Award Nominee

Toes is a story about a seven toed cat that gets lost from his family, and falls into a basement while looking for shelter. Toes, the cat, is very smart, and uses the toilet, and turns on and off the sink. When Toes is almost starved of hunger, Sebastian, the house owner, finds toes and keeps him. Toes encourages Sebastian with his music and is a wonderful companion for the lonley man.

Toes was a great story, my tied-for-favorite Mark Twain Award Nominee, and made me cry. The author made you grow attached to Toes, and the end was very sad. Details were great and I could picture the whole thing.

If you were a kitten with five toes and you had a brother with seven, how would you treat him?

If you were a kitten with seven toes and had brothers and sisters with five, how would you feel?

If you lived all alone in a house and there was a starving cat in your basement, would you keep it? If so, how long?

How would you feel if you lived all alone, never had company except a bird, and your best-of-the-best cat died, how would you feel?

Cabin on Trouble Creek

Cabin on Trouble Creek
By Jean Van Leeuwen
Mark Twain Award Nominee

As the father of Will and Daniel heads back to Pennsylvania to get the rest of the family, the two boys try to get as much done with the new cabin as they can. When the rest of the family don't arrive in time, Will and Daniel have to gather supplies and prepare for the coming winter months. With and unexpected friend, Will and Daniel try to conquer the forest. Will the survive?

This story was awesome! The suspence and adventure griped me all of the way through, and made me picture everything. The story was very realistic and full of detail.

If you were in the woods with only one other person, what would you do if a native american walked up to you?

How would you survive if you were in the woods with an axe, two knives, and one companion, and you were there with only that for months longer than expected?

Wat would you do if you were confronted by a bear?

Please give me your comments and answers to this post.

Eragon Book Three Predictions

Eragon Book Three Predictions (Book 4 Predictions coming soon!)

The book will be coming out September 23, 2008!

Today I thought that I would occasionally do book predictions, not only report on books. One of my favorite series is Eragon. The third book should be coming out in maybe a year. Here are some things I think will happen.

Since I now have over 1000 posts and read both books again, I have new ideas. My old list is below.

1. The Green Dragon Rider is Arya because in Deathwatch in Eragon, he sees a male and female boarding a ship with dragons in the sky.It also would make sense because there hasn't been a female rider mentioned, and there hasn't been a new elf rider for a while. A reason that many people say is that Arya also has green magic, and magic color is the same as dragon color. The color of magic means nothing until you have bonded with the dragon.

2.Oromis and Glaeder will die. They are old and Oromis said that he was lucky to live to train Eragon. They are both crippled as well.

3. Roran. He will save Katrina and get married. He will become ruler of Alagaesia because he has blood of the first human king. He is also a natural leader.

4.Eragon will probably bring someone back from the dead through the vault of souls. The other prediction of Solembum's may have already passed. Eragon got his elf-like strength from under the tree. Some of you may say "It was not totaly beneath the tree," but it doesn't have to be under the roots. It neither says that the weapon is a physical weapon.

5.Murtagh somehow turns good and marries Nasuada. They both like each other.

6. Elva has an important role.

7. Saphira and the green dragon mate.

Just To Clear Some Things Up.

1.The next Dragon is Green because CP said so already.

2.The new book does have Glaeder on the cover.

3. CP did not copy Lord of the Rings and Star Wars, many books/movies have similar plots.

4.The title is Brisingr.

5.This is NOT the last book.

Old Predictions

1. Eragon and Roran get Katrina and defeat the Ra 'zak.
2. The Varden get the green egg.
3. Roran hatches the green egg.
4. Eragon completes his training with Oromis.
5. Eragon and Roran get Rider Swords.
6. The two things Solumbum tells Eragon come true.
7. Murtagh MIGHT turn good.
8. Galbatorix is defeated.

Please tell me what you think will happen.

Eragon Book vs. Movie is also a post by me. has many predictions

Ranger's Apprentice

Ranger's Apprentice
The Ruins of Gorlan
By John Flanagan

As the wards of Castle Redmont line up in a row, the craftmasters look them over. The wards of the castle are 15, the age of choosing, The choosing was when the craftmasters who needed an apprentice chose who they would take. Will, a small boy wanted to go to battleschool, because his father had died a hero. When the battlemaster rejects him, he is chosen to be a ranger.

This book was one of my favorites. There was enough fantasy to make it excition, but not too much to make it far out. The story was filled with suspence from start to finish, and there were enough details to allow me to picture the scenes. Great book.

Ranger's Apprentice
The Burning Bridge
By John Flanagan
When Gilan, Halt the Ranger's first apprentice shows up in the middle of the night, needing two companions, Will and his knight apprentice friend, Horace, go on an adventure to deliver an important message to a neighboring kingdom. When Will, Horace, and a newly found companion have to split up from Gilan, they find a major problem in the upcoming war plans. The army is in the wrong place...
Another suspenceful story that will grip you to the end. Will is faced with challenges that are harder than his last adventure, and Horace is faced with a task that means certain death. The details were once again great.
If you could chose what craft you would learn, what would it be?
If you saw a ranger horse, would you try to get on it?
If you found a girl in the middle of your path, would you take her with you, where ever you were going?

Vampire Plagues: London 1850

Vampire Plagues: London 1850
By Sebastian Rook

One day, a young street unchin named Jack sees an unusual ship come to dock in London. There were no boxes being unloaded, there wasn't even a crew. As Jack watches the strange ghost ship, a hundred or more bats fly from the cabins. A while later a boy runs off and Jack chases him down an alley. The boy, Ben, tells Jack a startling story, and now London is in grave danger.

This book, recommended to me by my best friend Bradley, was a wonderful story filled with suspence. I can't wait to read the next in the series. The story was detailed and exciting, a wonderful read.

If you were Jack and saw a strrange ship pull into a harbor that gets visits from all of the world, would you pay attention to the one carrying the vampires?

If you were Mrs. Mills, and a mere twelve year old boy (no offence to twelve year old boys) told you not to let an old friend of your employer into the house, and the man told you the opposite, who would you believe?

If there was a house of vampires and you had some blood rose or knew where some was, would you fight them or just let someone do it for you?

Charlie's Raven

Charlie's Raven
By Jean George
Mark Twain Award Nominee

As Charlie's grandfather gets sicker and sicker, Charlie climbs a tree to get a baby raven to cure him. The raven is named Blue Sky, and Charlie and his grandparents put a band on his leg for identification. To keep Blue Sky, Charlie must be doing a study on him. Charlie decides to see if ravens are good, or evil.

This book was awesome! The end was sad, but that is true in many good books. Plus, not everything goes right in real life anyway. The story was suspensful, interesting, and realistic. The details were wonderful.

If your grandfather was sick and ravens really did heal, would you steal one from a nest?

Would you like to have a bird like Blue Sky or Pinecone?

Do you think ravens are good, evil, or mysterious?

Funerals and Fly Fishing

Funerals and Fly Fishing
By Mary Bartek

Mark Twain Award Nominee
Funerals and Fly Fishing is a story about Brad Stanislawski being sent to his grandfathers house after his mom wins a trip to California. At first, Brad isn't too excited to go to see a guy his mom won't talk too, not to mention that he runs a funeral home. Once he gets to Pennsylvania, he finds out his grandfather isn't that bad. One day, Brad and his grandfather go to a ball game, a boy tells Brad some startling news...

Funerals and Fly Fishing was a really good story. I think the events were things that could really happen, so the story felt like it really happened. There could have been a little more detail, but other than that, it was a great story. It will be hard to vote against it for Mark Twain Award.

What would you do if you were in Brad's place? What would you do if your parent or parents went on a relaxing vacation and you had to go to a funeral home with someone you had never met?

If you saw a dead person in a casket, what would you do?

If you were told the person you were staying with was scalping dead people, would you investigate? Would you try to get home?

Would you go fly fishing?
